Demon inside me
‘Alfie, get me some coffee.’ I said, waking up from my bed. I was sitting on my bed bewildered. I noticed that my room was darker than it used to be. I pushed the bed to make myself stand up and walked to the washroom to get rid of my drowsiness. There I felt a mild pain inside my head when I splashed water all over my face. It was like someone piercing my head with a nail. The pain aggravated as time passes and my vision started fading away into darkness. Out of blue, my entire body went numb and I couldn’t feel anything. All I knew was I was lying on the floor of the bathroom and Alfie was there outside the room, calling out my name. I tried to shout her name but I couldn’t move a muscle. The pain inside my head touched its peak and my vision went black slowly.
‘Hey? Wake up.’
‘Doctor check on him.’
‘Is he alright?’
‘Ma’am, please wait outside.’
I heard these voices around me and I concluded myself that I’m
in a hospital. But still, I couldn’t move a muscle but I was hearing everything
that was happening around me. The noises of a hospital, the words from the
nurses and doctors, the voice of Alfie, everything was there running inside my
head.
The pain inside my head slowly faded away and I was able to
open my eyes, and I smelled the environment of the Intensive care unit of the
hospital and I saw a nurse standing near my bed, taking readings from those
instruments around me.
‘Hey, nurse? What happened to me?’ I asked in an extremely
low voice. But she didn’t respond. I tried to wave my hands at her. But I
couldn’t move my hands. Then I saw Alfie, sitting on a chair in the corner of
the room. She was worried, I could see the grief in her eyes and face. I was
waiting for her to look at me, to notice that I am awake.
‘Alfie?’ I called out her name. But It didn’t reach her ears
since I was too weak. I tried a lot to let her know that I am awake. But all my
efforts went in vain. That pain inside my head again got intense and forced me
back to the state of numbness.
‘Dad? Wake up!’ I heard a voice. It became louder as it came
towards me. I realised that it was Alfie’s voice.
‘Dad, wake up, now,’ she shouted and shook my body like a
rollercoaster which brought me back to consciousness. I was in my bed, in my
room and Alfie was there laughing at my frightened face. I was confused about what
has happened now.
‘Shit, that was a dream.’ I said to myself with huge relief
and went to the washroom to clean the fear in my face asking Alfie to get me a
cup of coffee. When I splashed water on my face, I felt something strange
around me, the same pain which took me down hit my head.
